Dr. Goumas spent a lot of time playing sports when he was growing up and that led to his interest in orthopedic surgery.
“After injuring my shoulder playing football in my junior year of high school, I went to the orthopedic surgeon and was fascinated by what he did. At that point I figured this might be something that I want to do when I grow up.”
Dr. Goumas’ s subspecialty is shoulder and knee surgery.
“My mentor told me to learn a handful of operations. I have taken that advice. The shoulder surgery that I perform includes arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and instability surgery. I also perform total shoulder replacement surgery. The knee surgery that I perform includes ACL reconstruction, patellofemoral realignment surgery and knee arthroscopy including meniscal surgery. I also perform total knee replacement surgery. In addition, I have experience in surgery for tennis elbow and bicep tendon injuries.”
Dr. Goumas grew up in a factory town in Ansonia, Connecticut, outside of Bridgeport and he takes pride in making all of his patients feel comfortable.
“Being a doctor was really unheard of from where I grew up. I never want to come off as being a know it all doctor. I make a real conscious effort to make every patient feel very comfortable when they come see me.”
