Ken’s Story
September 27, 2019
I’m 55 now and have been an avid runner since I was 12 years old. Maybe obsessed is a better word. Having run countless road races, marathons, cross country races and track meets, I have beaten my poor knees more than probably 10 lifetimes. Dr. Joseph saw me first 13 years ago and scoped the left knee, and the right knee was scoped maybe 10 years ago. Up until my recent knee replacement I had a running streak where I had run at least 2 miles every day since April 22, 1982. So, Sunday-Sunday I ran every day for 33+ years. Every day! Needless to say when my right knee was causing me chronic pain this past summer it was no mystery to Dr. Joseph! I needed a replacement. So, the day finally arrived, October 26th. I ran that morning, of course, before my surgery. I had to. It would be the last day of my running streak. At 4:30 AM, I awoke, laced up my Asics, and ran(hobbled) for 3 1/2 miles. Feeling great, I went to St. Joseph’s with my wife Carole, where at about 8AM, Dr. Joseph worked his magic. The next 3 days I spent at St. Joseph’s Hospital, under fantastic, thoughtful care. My recovery has been quick and relatively painless. I appreciate the great work all the staff at NHOC has given me. My right knee is brand new, and I commit to taking great care of it. Dr. Joseph is second to none in my opinion, an expert in his field. Oh yes, and I’m getting the left knee replaced this March!
