Now Performing ExcelsiusGPS Robotic Assisted Spine Surgery

June 23, 2021

Medical technology advancements are changing the way spine surgery is performed by combining the benefits of navigation and robotics into one technology.

New Hampshire Orthopedic Center and Parkland Medical Center are proud to bring the next revolution in minimally invasive spine surgery to southern New Hampshire, improving accuracy and optimizing our patient care by using robotics and navigation. Christian M. Klare, MD and Matthew W. Wilkening, MD use this technology to improve their patients’ outcomes.

How does it work?

Robotic Guidance involves the placement of instruments and implants through a rigid robotic arm that orients the surgeon along a guided pathway.

Prior to surgery medical images are obtained and imported into ExcelsiusGPS. Your surgeon uses these images along with the robotic software to develop a precise surgical plan. This plan is used to guide the rigid robotic arm to a specific region of your spine, similar to a planned route or pathway on a GPS. Your surgeon uses this pathway to accurately place the implants using instruments.

“We chose this technology because it is superior to other robotic spine platforms. This technology will lead to shorter surgical times, more precise instrument placement, smaller incisions by allowing for minimally invasive approaches – all of which will improve patient outcomes and shorten recovery. ”
